The next advance is to the new Ford Edge, a capacious mid-size crossover in SE, SEL, Titanium, or Sport trims that's a five-seater with a sprawling 113.9 cubic feet of passenger room. Cargo space reaches up to 73.4 cubic feet with the SUV's rear seating folded, and when you go for a model with a standard twin-scroll 2.0-liter EcoBoost or an optional 3.5-liter Ti-VCT V6, along with a Class II Tow Package, you can enjoy a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. That's plenty for that pair of dirt bikes you've been saving for a special occasion, among other toys.

With the new Ford Explorer, the offerings begin to go big. In base, XLT, Limited, Sport, and Platinum trims and with seating for seven, it's an SUV mid-size by segment but large by aspiration. The new Explorer is home to a huge 151.5-cubic-foot interior for passengers, with 81.7 cubic feet for luggage, camping gear, and other essentials with rear seats, including an optional PowerFold third-row seat, folded.
